easter egg hunt

So finally the little Hugaboo got to do something by herself without a stinky brother along!  He’s on spring break right now with his Papa, so he missed out on the Easter egg hunt yesterday.  But she had a lot of fun.  They have to find the eggs IN THE DARK and use a flashlight while digging through shredded paper.  It was a lot of fun, but made it difficult for pictures on my cell phone ;)  There were also lots of little crafts and a couple of bounce houses.  She did NOT want to see the Easter Bunny which was completely ok with me!!

science center field trip

On Friday, we went on a field trip to the MSUM science center at Buffalo River State Park.  It was a lot of fun.  We were there over 2 hours, but we’d like to go again and take even more time on the trail exploring.  It was interesting to me to see the river bank erosion and what I call mini-glaciers from the ice that had been on the river that got pushed onto the land.  So I included a couple pictures of those things for you too :)  And without further ado, here’s some of the kids!

Climbing the “mountains” in Moorhead- flat land as far as the eye can see!!  And bird watching from inside the center.

Ewww, a dead pocket gopher (in the container the guy is holding) and mounds on the ground.
Second image is of deer and other animal tracks (sorry, Oliver, no Emu tracks.)

Cool moss!

Wolf hide and pointy claws!

Here’s the mini-glaciers and riverbank erosion.

self portrait

Today in art class they did watercolor self portraits.  The teacher said she instructed them to use dark colors on one side and light colors on the other side and they also worked on blending colors.  This turned out great!  Also, for the teeth, he drew them of when he was missing one tooth on the bottom and the toothfairy came and gave him a gift card to the Game Shop.  Yes, it always comes back to video games.

More Painting Pictures

You may notice I take a lot of pictures of the kids painting.  Its because they love to paint and it keeps them busy while I clean house or do dishes (then there’s always the bath that follows which keeps them busy even longer!)

This time we were doing Easter basket pictures and were NOT allowed to use our fingers or paint brushes :)  Used cut up sponges in the shape of eggs, an egg beater and slotted turner for the basket, and corrugated cardboard for making the grass.  They had lots of fun!

Snow is Melting

Yes, these pictures show the snow as its melting.  We had more.  A LOT more.  Note the size of this hill in proportion to the kids and the houses in the background.  YIKES! For the record, it was very warm this day, around 50 degrees, hence the spring jackets and no mittens :)

And I just LOOOOVVVEEE this picture.  Why, yes, she IS wearing swimming goggles upside-down.

Bunny Cookies

So at Michaels they had bunny cookie decorating kits for $2 with three cookies.  Thought they’d be fun.  Here’s pictures of our decorating fun from yesterday.

(bunny teeth)

(who needs the cookie when I can suck on the frosting tube while mom is taking pictures of other things?)

Another Day in the Life of…

So I took this pictures back in January to show some examples of what we do, but then now I cannot find my blog post about it so I’m thinking it got forgotten!  This was work we did just after Christmas, so its been a couple months already!  Here you go….

Here’s a picture of the room right as you walk in.

A close up of his workboxes in the corner (these have all of the day’s work separated out so he knows what needs to be done.) BTW, workbox 4 on the bottom has addition equations & I didn’t get a good picture of it.

Art Class

Big Hugaboo started an art class today for hs’d kids.  He seemed to enjoy it.  This session’s theme is watercolor painting.  The used plastic wrap as a resist to make the color variations for the giraffe. Here’s his first painting, let the bidding begin :)

Psalm 100

Here’s a video of X during the public speaking program for homeschool kids this evening.  He did a great job, sounded nice and clear, and remembered his verses (for the most part!)  He also looked great in a tie!
